APSOU

Children play the game "APSOU" on a tablet device under the supervision of their parents, while wearing wearable fitness trackers to collect biometric data.

Steps of Use

Parent's registration

Registration of a parent in the information system after an analysis of all categories of personal data collected on parents and children has been carried out and consent has been obtained from the parent in accordance with the current GDPR regulation.

Children's data

The parent enters detailed information about the child (personal data and history) for whom the automated diagnosis process for communication and speech difficulties will be activated.

Wearable

The parent receives the wearable smartwatch from the Smartspeech coordination centre and the tablet to be used for the game and setup takes place.

The Game

The child plays the game on the tablet after a controlled parental login to the information system.

Data collection

The data collected, both the child's history and spontaneous responses to the game are transferred to a database in the Smartspeech intelligent information system.

Automatic diagnosis

The intelligent system processes the input data and according to indicator thresholds produces results on whether the child is in a risk group for speech and communication problems.

Diagnostic indicators for the spectrum of communication difficulties in preschool children

According to the documented literature on communication difficulties in the preschool age range, there is a high need for early detection and support for children and their families. Communication indicators related to the preschool age are approached through the system concerning language development, developmental milestones of speech and communication, psychomotor skills, cognitive development focusing on memory, learning, attention and social skills mechanisms. At the same time, mobile technologies today are transforming our lives.

Their use in health and learning has evolved giving new possibilities such as the use of sensors to collect data on activity level, cognitive functions, physical and social activities for health monitoring and other predictions. The Smartspeech research project studies the possibility of automated diagnosis using intelligent computer models, software systems and sensory systems in groups of children to automatically detect if they belong to high-risk groups with speech and communication difficulties. The system is expected to act as a tool for assessment, counselling and early intervention planning.
